Howling for Glen Canyon

Sleight’s never flinching advocacy for the Colorado River, especially Glen Canyon, inspired the exhibit Glen Canyon, a River Guide Remembers, a collaboration between Ken, and his friends Ryann Savino, curator, and Martha Ham, producer. Celebrating the exhibit, closing June 1st, friends, artists, storytellers, and musicians came together in honor of Ken’s legacy through art, music, journalism, writings, film, and photography.
The dual events on May 10 & 11 recognize the current water crisis on the Colorado River, affecting 40 million people in the arid west. And, even more so, the irony of unexpected ecological recovery of the once-flooded landscape in Glen Canyon.

Two nights of merriment!
On both nights, curator Ryann Savino and producer Martha Ham will be present to speak to their exhibit, Glen Canyon: A River Guide Remembers.
Friday, May 10 | 6:00pm | Blood River
Craig Childs, an award-winning author, who has written about Glen Canyon, along with Greg Istock, an American desert musician with a unique sound, present “Blood River,” a multimedia partnership combining storytelling and music.
Saturday, May 11 | 6:00pm | Glen Canyon Rises
The Glen Canyon Rises tour brings together film, discussion, photography, and music to showcase Lake Powell’s complex and surprising transformation.
Journalist and author Zak Podmore draws from his forthcoming book, Life After Dead Pool: Lake Powell’s Last Days and the Rebirth of the Colorado River. Photographer and filmmaker Dawn Kish screens Tad’s Emerging World: Glen Canyon Exposed, a unique perspective of change in Glen Canyon. And award-winning songwriter, Jackson Emmer, performs original Colorado River songs, some of which were written on his first trip to Lake Powell in 2023.
Special Guests: Returning Rapids Project and Torrey House Press pop-up bookshop.
