The John Wesley Powell River History Museum offers a variety of engaging, hands-on activities for K-12 students. School groups can visit the museum free of charge but visits must be scheduled in advance. Programs are taught by an experienced museum and classroom educator. Pair a self-guided visit (includes a short film showing in our museum theater) with a hands-on activity or experience from one of the following focus areas:
Archaeology and Artifact Analysis: Piece together the stories of the past and learn to think like an archaeologist by engaging with real artifacts! Ideal for grades 3+.
Archaeology and Art: Create your own rock art or clay pot while listening to a story! Ideal for grades K-3.
Geology: Rock the Layers! Learn about stratigraphy through a hands-on craft activity in a jar. Ideal for grades K-5.
Primary and Secondary Sources: Learn to distinguish between these two types of sources through document analysis activities. Ideal for grades 6+.
Can’t make it to the museum in person? Ask us about connecting with your classroom via Zoom or Google Meet!
